Web site optimization can be a tedious and demanding job. It takes years of experience to become an expert at SEO and to understand the many variables that affect your web site ranking. Over the past decade I have optimized hundreds of web sites ranging in size from just a few pages to over 200,000 pages.
Our 5 Major Steps
1) Determine your goals
There are so many different types of websites spread across so many industries and markets it is impossible to have a “one size fits all” SEO plan. You know your business, your market. We know how to get traffic, but only you can define your ideal site visitor. Once we know the facts we will work closely with you to define a strategy for increasing the best quality targeted traffic.
2) Time for a checkup
Is your web site code heavy? Do you have hundreds of thousands of low quality incoming links? Does your CMS software allow for unique page titles? Does your existing internal linking make clear to Google what are the major categories or landing pages within your website? Is your website brand new or has the domain been around for many years? We ask a lot of questions before we can see how much (or how little) work may be involved in gaining a high ranking for your website.
Put simply: before we do anything we must determine the strengths and weaknesses of your website. In this way we make sure we are attacking the most important areas of optimization and getting the best results as quickly as possible.
3) Don’t do anything without a plan
We never go in willy nilly and just start optimizing a web site. Every website is unique and must be optimized in a way that ensures the best short, medium and long-term ranking success.
To get the best results we must build an optimization strategy. This ensures we are working in an efficient way and that we are focusing on the most important aspects of SEO as related to your unique website. With careful planning we put your website on track to achieve high rankings for a broad array of keywords, starting with what are known as “long tail” (or low competition) keywords and finishing up with the most highly competitive keywords related to your market.
4) On page SEO
Optimally, each page on your website must be unique, different from all others. Larger websites often suffer from having “similar” content on many pages, which can result in some pages being relegated to much lower rankings by Google. In these cases judicious use of canonical links may be required to make the best pages stand out and lead customers into the sub-sections most applicable to their needs.
We carefully make subtle changes to each page to make the most of your content. Our goal is to make the true content of each page clearly identifiable to Google. If we feel your content needs some updating or changes to better differentiate your web site from others, or even one page from another, we will make such recommendations. Your success is related to the quality of your content and following proper steps to make unique keywords prominent across each page.
We never engage in any black hat SEO practices, rather we always follow the guidelines provided by Google and other major search engines.
5) Off page SEO
Once we have completed the majority (if not all) the on page SEO we begin building a network of quality external links to your web site within your industry. We never engage in cheap article submission practices nor spamming sites for links. All our links will be non-spammy and helpful to building your website popularity.
Monitor and adjust as required
I did not call this a 6th step because this part of SEO never ends. It is important to continually monitor results and make adjustments as necessary. You can expect your competition to react to your taking over top spots for their keywords. We track results via sophisticated software and provide you with regular reports on how your web site is faring. We have a very high success rate in attaining high rankings for our clients but the speed at which your site improves is subject to factors such as level of competition, reaction of competition, website age (domain age) and many other factors that have a direct effect on where your site ends up in the search results. We are always confident of achieving high rankings, however we never engage in making overly optimistic guesses. Suffice it to say we will help get your website much better rankings in an honest and fair manner.
WHEN TO EXPECT RESULTS
In almost all cases we see improvement within 30 to 60 days; in some cases it is dramatic and in others it may be simply an encouraging upward movement. The most common result is a sharp movement up for less competitive keywords and a slow steady climb for the tougher ones. It really depends on many factors associated with search engine ranking. Once we have reviewed your website and the competition we can give you a much better idea how long it will take to see results.
In a general sense you can expect improvement in highly competitive keywords to take at least 6 months in most cases. However results will be long lasting when SEO is done in the right manner.
